Common Cold is the inflammation of the upper respiratory tract which is caused by viral infection. This is a very general problem which affects people mostly during monsoons. Common cold viruses cause inflammation of the upper respiratory area, which results in the variety of symptoms.
Lemon can be used effectively to treat common cold, as it increases the body resistance. Take one glass of warm water and pour some limejuice and a tsp of honey in it and consume it once or twice on a daily basis.
Take tincture of peppermint leaves or echinacea (leaves, flowers), or ginger root. You can drink peppermint, chamomile or eucalyptus tea 3 times a day.
Add 5-10 drops of eucalyptus, peppermint, pine, lavender, thyme, tea tree oil to a bowl of steaming water. Place your nose over the vapors and inhale, covering yourself with a towel and inhale deeply. This will cure your blocked or running nose or will loosen thick mucus.
For dry and stuffy nose, try normal saline or salt water nasal drops made by adding 1/4 teaspoon of table salt to about 4 ml lukewarm water. Make a fresh solution every few days keeping it in refrigerator. Use a clean dropper to instill 1 to 2 drops in each nostril about 3 to 4 times daily for common cold .
Mix one teaspoon of lemon juice in a half teaspoon whiskey and a teaspoon of honey. Add hot water to it and make syrup. This syrup not only soothes throat and loosen mucous membrane, but also cure from fever and body pain
Ginger: (Zingiber officinale) Ginger extracts taken numerous times a day is a superb Home remedy for Common Cold and to treat coughs that accompany common colds.
The roots of the bitter gourd plant are used in folk medicine to treat a cold. A teaspoon of the root paste, mixed with an identical amount of honey or tulsi leaf juice, given once every night for a month, acts as an excellent medicine for colds. This is another effective Home Remedy for Common Cold.
Prepare tea by adding 1 tbsp of pepper powder in a cup of milk along with a pinch of turmeric and little sugar. It is very common natural remedy for cold.
A combination of echinacea, peppermint and chamomile tea can be helpful. Make it strong; if it is too strong for a child, dilute the tea with rice milk, soy milk or almond milk. Echinacea boosts the immune system; peppermint dilates the bronchioles; and chamomile sooths the stomach and takes away congestion. This is a good first common cold treatment in the early stages of a cold, and I usually recommend one cup 2-4 times per day.
