Canker sore, also known as mouth ulcer, is an open sore in the mouth, which appears as a painful white or yellow ulcer surrounded by a bright red area.
A canker sore is not harmful only painful.
Canker sores only form on the “loose” tissues of the mouth, such as: the skin covering the inside of the lips and cheeks, the floor of the mouth, the underside of the tongue, the soft palate, and the tonsils areas.
Home Remedies for Canker Sores
Take a fresh coconut and grate it. Extract the milk out of it and gargle with it at least 3-4 times in a day. It serves as an excellent canker sores home remedy treatment.
Mix three parts water with one part hydrogen peroxide. Swish this solution around in your mouth for thirty seconds to one minute, then spit it out. Repeat this treatment four times a day to help kill the bacteria that cause canker sores. This is one of the good home remedies for canker sores.
The oil derived from the leaves of the native Australian Melaleuca alternifolia tree is useful treating canker sores. It contains antiseptic compounds those are very effective skin disinfectant. Depending upon severity, use 5-15% solutions daily.
Put alum directly in the canker sore. Alum helps relieve the pain and act as anantiseptic. It can prevent the infection from getting worse. Applying alum on the mouth area at night will heal canker sores fast and easy.
Use of aloe juice as a mouth rinse regularly as it is a great measure to get rid of this painful infection. Also the usage of antacid formulas such as Mylanta and Milk of Magnesia, as a mouth rinse can be very effective.
Application of preservative alum can also be a very good remedy.
Myrrh: Myrrh contains high amounts of tannins. Powdered myrrh is useful for the treatment of mild inflammations of the mouth. Myrrh had been used as a traditional remedy for mouth and gum irritations. Some herbalists suggest mixing 200-300 mg of herbal extract or 4 ml of myrrh tincture with warm water and swishing it in the mouth two to three times per day. Alternately, you can open a capsule and dab a little directly on the sore. This is one of the best home remedies for canker sores.
Another topical Ayurvedic remedy is the herb kama-dudha. Take ‘/4 teaspoon and t teaspoon fresh cream. Mix together and rub it on the sore.
Canker sores do take time to heal, a week to 2 or maybe more sometimes - really varies from person to person. One of the remedies could be mix milk of magnesia and benadryl allergy liquid in equal amounts and gargle for a minute or so and spit it out. Repeat this every 6 hours. This should provide some relief.
